Polar Bear, "Chuckchi" Born: 11/19/77 Birthplace: Lincoln Park Zoo Home at LPZ: Robert McCormick Bear and Wolf Habitat Rejected by her mother at birth, Chuckchi was hand-raised in the Children's Zoo Nursery. When she was one year old, she met her mate "Thor" who came from the San Francisco Zoo. When both cubs were a little over two years old, construction on the McCormick Bear and Wolf Habitat began and both were sent to the Potowatami Zoo in South Bend, Indiana. They returned in 1982. Chuckchi is the mother of "Anana," a female cub born in 1989 who now lives at the Baltimore Zoo in Maryland. Chuckchi has been fitted with a contraceptive implant since 1995 because there are no zoos available to take additional polar bear cubs at this time.
